Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! All of our classes meet the requirement including the training by a certified NRA Instructor and demonstrating firing a pistol that contains the required ammunition as outlined by law. You will be all set to further apply for your full permit with the state.

No, but it is highly recommended. This class is intended to teach the trainee how to carry a concealed weapon legally in the state of Florida. Trainees with little or no experience need to be competent in the safe handling of a firearm BEFORE taking this class. The “Introduction to Shooting” class is the only course you do not need to know how to shoot before taking the class. That class is designed for new shooters or folks who want a more relaxed setting and have the option of private one on one instruction for an additional fee. The CCW class is NOT appropriate for first time shooters. Successful completion of the introduction class should enable trainee to register and pass the CCW class with ease.

Qualification is different for each course and NOT only about hitting the target but also about safe firearms handling. Each trainee will be assigned a lane from which to shoot 20 to 500 rounds depending on course. The trainee will always be supervised by instructor(s), the whole time. The trainee must be able to load 5 rounds, fire 5 rounds, unload firearm, and reload 5 rounds and fire 5 rounds without assistance. If using a semi-auto, must be able to load magazine, remove magazine, operate slide. If using a revolver, must be able to open cylinder, load 5 rounds (regardless of capacity), fire, and unload cartridges, and reload. If practicing this at home, use dummy ammo or snap caps. DO NOT PRACTICE WITH LIVE AMMUNITION!!!

No. You do not have to qualify with the gun you plan to carry. Loaner guns are available for a small fee for your use in qualifying or you may use the gun of a family member or friend. We recommend that new shooters complete the class BEFORE purchasing a firearm because you will be a much more informed consumer and have a better idea of what you want, not what the gun store wants to sell you.

The Florida CCW allows holders of the license to carry not only a Handgun but also other defense items such as electronic weapons, Tear gas guns, Billy clubs and Knives. If you are traveling please check reciprocity map and make sure you understand the specifics of each states restrictions that you will travel to.

FDACS takes at least 90 days, from the day that the FDACS actually receives the application to be processed. You may NOT carry a concealable weapon until you are in possession of your CCW permit. FDACS MUST notify applicants within 90 days if the applicants permit is DENIED. If you have not heard from FDACS within the 90-day time frame, rest assured as your permit is likely in the works.
